I've interviewed engineers at semiconductor companies who told me the whole HSDPA modem, SIM card reader and antennas cost less than $30-40 per unit. There might be some licencing issues though with being allowed by the HSDPA consortium to release an unlocked HSDPA enabled device like that. Or Archos may have a strategy of trying to sign distribution deals only with carriers for locked HSDPA versions of the devices. I'd rather they go the unlocked HSDPA route as an option if they are able to do that in terms of licencing.

It would be nice that Archos reach super stable Android 2.1 Eclair firmware soon on the whole range, with the optimal RAM utilization, stable power management and stable Android applications support.

If the newer 1ghz processor improves the MKV 720p High Profile bitrate support then that would be great as well. The target should be to support 99.99% of all MKV movie files that are available on the Internet.

If Archos could lower the amount of bezel around the screen to cover if possible less than 10% of the overall surface area of the product, that would be great.

Built-in full sized HDMI output, built-in AC Adaptor connector, built-in full sized USB-host and full sized SDHC support instead of MicroSDHC card support I think could be meaningful goals as well.
Brilliant, but how realistic is this - months or more likely years away? Would love a decent camera, software stability, and return to a skinny bezel instead of the "wings" for hands. The only problem with the skinny a5imt bezel was the low positioning of the earphone jack in the way of handhold, but looks like they raised that for the A7A anyway.

Yup obviously, the higher capacity prices that I suggest are the cost you have to add to the basic 8GB versions.

So for example:

A5A 64GB or 500GB could be $329

A9A 32GB or 250GB could be $314

A7A 32GB with HSDPA could be $324
Hey Charbax, we all know this isn't the first time you've speculated on a 64GB model pricing. So why keep speculating when there is no proof to this point that one will ever exist? As I've asked before, do you know something we don't?

Since when does speculation have to be based on *anything*? Of course Charbax is basing his speculation on what he knows and has heard, but that doesn't mean Henri Crohas has been sneaking into his flat to leave him cryptic clues to the next releases... Or does he!?

Here's a game you can play. Pretend that Charbax doesn't know anything anyone else who follows Archos and the industry closely doesn't know and see if he guesses right over time more than that would seem to account for. What will the answer be, I wonder? 8)

64GB comes when the factories have it delivered. Production cycles are about 3 months, so factor in that factories must have provided the appropriatedly priced 64GB memory about 3 months before you can buy it in the stores.

Man, if an A7A had a Pixel Qi screen and a small bezel I would be beating down the doors to get it.

As soon as a 7A comes out with 500G I'll beat down the doors.

One gripe that I've heard from a lot of Nexus One users is because of it's lack of a bezel.

"Every time I grab it, I accidentally touch the screen!"

So I'm not in a hurry to see the bezel go away, myself. At least not until Android has a fairly sophisticated and user-transparent system for distinguishing and disregarding accidental input. And that might take a while, given the minimal computing resources on most Android devices.

Just a thought.

My thoughts as well. I often use devhce one handed in portrait and I would constantly be hitting the screen if not for the bezel.

A small bezel would be fine. Size isn't everything.

I'm told - Hitler only had one bezel.

Oh, and according to this chart Gizmodo pulled out of it's arse...

They peg the A7A as being multitouch and, even crazier, supporting the Android market and that would mean Google relaxing it's requirements, which would also mean Google Experience apps on the A5A as well.

I suspect this is more of a typo than insider info, but one never knows!

Umm....

Do they REALLY expect to get away with using a SLOWER CPU? A5A is 800MHz, but the A7A with MORE FUNCTIONS will only have a 600MHz?

I'm voting for that being another type-o...

Don't ya like n-generational rumors. And I have a friend with a friend... who has a bridge for ...

I expect, if the 7A comes out, it's processor will be at least as fast (or faster than) the 5A. I also expect it to come with at least the same, or similar, Storage configs.

I sure would like that 500G 7A! :)

The feature I most want is direct video out through the headphone jack, like the older players. It's a bummer they eliminated that.

There might be some interference problems outputting video on same mini jack as normal headphones.

I'd really like to see a full sized built-in HDMI output. Especially I think the Archos 7 Internet Tablet with Android probably is big enough to have space for such a connector built right in. They can have some rubber cover for the plug if they want to prevent dust from going inside.
