So streetview works fine as well.

Really? I tried it last night after I read about the download here and it doesn't seem to do anything for me. I click on the button and it just takes me back to the map... no street view. Hrumph...

I posted this to the blog: http://archosfans.com/2009/11/22/google ... h-android/

With the latest firmware 1.3.07, the official Google Android application Google Maps is now working very smoothly and nicely. This could be a clue towards the full Google Experience with Gmail, Listen, Contacts, Google Earth, Google Talk, Google Voice (with Gizmo VOIP) and even Youtube adapted to take advantage of Archos specific superior Android Tablet hardware. And most importantly of course, full Google Marketplace support so we can more easily get access to all 10 thousand Android applications, filtered for full hardware compatibility.

Google Street View works as well:

To have a perfect Google Maps with Navigation experience on Archos, since we don't all have our 3G Bluetooth tethering for wireless data access working all the time, it would be really great to have some ways to download into cache storage the maps for a whole city in advance and thus have access to offline version of Google Maps with Navigation. That is something we can expect to be available with Android 2.0 and the Google Maps with Navigation software that has been demoed to have offline maps caching features available to it. Pre-loading basic maps would probably not require much more than a few tens of megabytes per city, while high resolution satellite imagery could require hundreds of megabytes per city, and 3D satellite imagery could require even more.

Source for this info and you can download Google Maps and Google Street View apk files at: http://www.archoslounge.net/Google-Maps ... ,9176.html

Street View is awesome - all but the smallest roads show in my little village of only 6,000 people. Once you find your location, you just hold on the little sign that pops up w/address and several choices show, one of which is "Street View" That's with Wi-Fi.

I'm taking it outside to use only the GPS and will report on that experiment.

I went to that site (site in french, files in english), downloaded and copied to my Archos. I tried to rename from zip like like I have had to before but when I tried to load they would not parse. These really are zips and I needed to unpack first - now they install. Let's see how they work...

SWEET! All up, All good. Started in my apartment and satellite view puts the dot inside the building most of the time and is setting it well enough for a drone strike. Does Google own any predator drones? Better make nice with mother google...

It does work. Which other apps have you got installed, how much storage have you got available, did you try to run close everything 2 to close eventually some app that may be using all your ressources.

Latitude requires Google Account management in Android, as for Gmail, Google Listen, Google Contacts and eventually as for the Google Marketplace. Hopefully Archos ads support for all that in the next firmware update. I think, likely with the Android 1.6 firmware update.

although it did save after closing and reopening the app , but if it force closes for some reason or the OS needs to do a rs , if I'm already outside with no network connection then its completely lost , storing directions on memory wouldn't be bad option to include in settings

I got street view working as well by adding a search and after the search return there is (if available) the option to see it in streetview. Or if you push on an address on the map a little longer you get the same options. Works actually unexpectedly great.

Yep, street view only shows up as a Map option in the cities where Google has had its cars drive around and actually record the street view images. Try Paris, London, New York, San Fransisco, or look for a list online of all the places where Google has made the Street View so far and maybe they even have dates for when more cities will be added.
