I just Tried this and it works!!

What you need:
USB Host Cable (Male USB to Female USB)
USB to 5V Adapter (any radioshack, i got mine with a USB powered hub)

the AV 500 comes with a USB HOST cable that you can hook your Camera or Compact Card Readers.

I have a USB to 5V Adapter that is the SAME SIZE as the plug needed for the Archos AV500/Docking Adapter.

I plug the USB host cable into the USB A (left) usb port, and the USB 5V adapter into the adapter.
I then plugged the docking adapter into the plug

I then plugged the docking adapter into the plug

As you can see the AV500 now believes it is getting charged, however it is just recycling its own power, enabling input recording from the docking adapter.

That's really cool!

Now your Archos will never get empty, because it recharges itself! ;)

Well I bought the travel adapter so i don't need to use the AV Pod :P

I think its a cheap solution to the AV Travel Adapter... but the adapter isnt very expensive either...

Anyway the Downside to that I see is that there is no way to know what's your battery life during a recording...

(No, you are not charging the AV from itself)

I bought the adapter and its great... the only fault its that the AV Out plug its partially over the Power plug.... since I have 2 Chargers (they sent me an extra one) I bent the male plug of one of those and now its working great for that purpuse...
