So I Formatted my tablet because my sister put a pattern on it before she left for school, and i couldn't unlock it.
i got the message "Device will be completely erased, and will need a full and manual reinstallation of its operating system, using an AOS file available on Archos website"

I downloaded the AOS, Connected my tablet to my computer, copied and pasted the AOS file directly into the tablet and it still doesn't work. Any advice or pointers would be appreciated.

Did you try this:

For ARCHOS 70b internet tablet running Honeycomb (3.2) use this file:
http://update.archos.com/9/gen8v2avx9/g ... os_it3.aos

For ARCHOS 70b internet tablet running Android 2.2 (Froyo) use this file:
http://update.archos.com/8/gen8v2/gen8v ... d_gen8.aos

Instructions:

http://www.archos.com/support/support_t ... ang=en&g=9

One of my biggest pet peeves about this specific forum section is that it CLEARLY is marked as:

Archos 70b Internet Tablet
New Archos 70b Internet Tablet ($199), OMAP3 at 1.2Ghz, 512MB RAM, 1024x600 screen, Honeycomb

Notice, it CLEARLY says "Honeycomb" (which is Anrdroid 3.x.x), but yet all kinds of people with the older Froyo (which have Android 2.x.x) models keep coming here asking about things.

The MODS really should have sorted all of this out and have totally separate sections for the (now really old and outdated) 70 e-book reader models, the 70b Froyo models, and this 70b Honeycomb model.

Then again, it was totally idiotic of Archos to have made so many devices with the same model name to start with! And the MORONS at Archos did the same idiotic nonsense with the newer G9 models also.... Used the same model G9 name for devices that had totally different hardware in them (example a 1.2GHz G9 with an OMAP 4430 and another one with an OMAP 4460 processor).

I'm really royally sick of all the B.S with anything "Archos".
