Hi All,
I still do not understand the concept of charging.
When the appliance is switched off- why doesn't it charge?
What is the optimal way to charge it (most efficient when not working)?
Thanks
Charging the device ??
Re: Charging the device ??
I suspect you should connect it to the supplied charger (or any USB charger capable of delivering at least 1500mA), and then put it into 'Deep Sleep'. When you do this, the power light stays on - but it goes out of the device is completely shut down.
Compared to most USB-powered device, the G9 80 uses quite a lot of power when running, so a charger that only delivers 1A will not be sufficient to allow it to hold its charge. If the device is completely shut down, then the USB circuitry is also powered down - so it cannot tell the charger/powered hub/computer how much power it needs!
In Deep Sleep mode, the micro-USB socket is still powered - at least enough to be able to negotiate re power requirements. However, with the latest firmware the 3G socket is off, as is the WiFi; I think the CPU is also powered down, and the RAM is powered just enough to avoid it losing its contents. The battery life is probably very long in this mode!

If the device is shut down it does not charge....thus when in deep sleep it seems that in many times the device is charging and the welcome screen appears when you plug on the charger.
Re: Charging the device ??
If you shut it down with the charger attached, it will not take power from the charger. If, however you disconnect and reconnect the charger it will reboot (showing the Archos image) and then go to the authentication screen.
To put it into deep sleep, press and hold the power button, and then select Deep Sleep from the drop-down menu. If you put it into deep sleep mode while the charger is attached, it will continue to take power from the charger. If you disconnect and reconnect the charger, it will go straight to the authentication screen.
So, for the fastest recharge: connect the charger, put the device into Deep Sleep, and leave the charger connected.
For avoidance of doubt: the above applies to the G9 80. I believe the G9 101 has a separate power socket, and cannot be charged by USB.

Now its much more clear thus I think it's a bad UX of archos engineers.
I think that when device is shut down and sensing current in connector it should charge the device.
Having all those tricks of connecting/disconnecting the charger and expecting the device for different behavior seems to be odd (TMHO)

Re: Charging the device ??
What happens if the battery is completely flat?
Presumably it can draw power from the charger, to be able to turn on, to actually recharge?
I have a feeling that my 5IT may also start up when its charging, but definitely continues charging if its shut down.
Thanks,
Richard

Re: Charging the device ??
This is explained in the mini-manual
It takes some time to get an charge big enough to start the real charging process.

All the solar chargers I've seen have a battery. I think most solar chargers don't generate enough power just from the solar panel for real-time charging.RaviAuto wrote:... And with solar chargers, weather fluctuations can be the spoilsport.

Jiyong, raviauto is a spammer. No need to really read his posts.
