earlier post of Charbax with 3.2.46 firmware
Earlier I saw a topic topic Charbax posted with the link to the 3.2.46 firmware. I downloaded it because the link was to Archos' site and installed it. I had some issues with it, (sd card only being recognized part of the time and device not recognizing my hard drive plugged into the 3g port). I checked Archos site and this file is hosted on their site, but there is no link to it on the offical Archos update page. So if you downloaded it, I would wait to install it until Archos offcially puts it a link to it on their site. I was able to downgrade to 3.2.22 again, so all is well.
Just my two cents.

Yup they are still testing things, it should be released officially fully tested by Monday unless they find some other bugs before then and delay the release.

What on earth would be the reason for taking this functionality away? Craig? I've been a die hard supporter of Archos, but this may be enough for me to send it back? It does have the screen issue, so they should give me a refund.

The 3G USB slot isn't supposed to be where you plug in your HDDs their supposed to plug into the micro USB socket using a Micro USB to Standard USB slot going by what is said on Archos website.
USB host: Mass Storage Class (MSC) (Micro USB/USB Host cable sold separately)

Yes. I know this. However, the 3g port does work for my hardrive, whereas the microusb port does not. Yes I have the OTG cable an yes, my hard drive had external power when I tried.FC360 wrote:The 3G USB slot isn't supposed to be where you plug in your HDDs their supposed to plug into the micro USB socket using a Micro USB to Standard USB slot going by what is said on Archos website.

Re: earlier post of Charbax with 3.2.46 firmware
With the firmware update, did you try again? I have no idea what OTG USB cables are but surely any cable that come with the HDD should work? Or any cable with appropriate micro-USB connectors at each end should work? Why do we need to jump through so many hoops to get something that works natively on other tablets to work here?butterflygirl wrote:Yes. I know this. I actually tried this firmware last Friday. I may try again today since it is now officially on Archos' website. http://update.archos.com/9/gen9/gen9_3. ... os_it4.aosTME wrote:With the firmware update, did you try again? The OTG cable is the special cable you need to enable host on the micro usb port.

We have an update at Archos Facebook Fan Page or w/e

Lets have a hope that archos will let us use this port. It will be an awesome plus in these tablets.

Re: earlier post of Charbax with 3.2.46 firmware
Tried 3.2.46 again today.
1. Camera looks fine.
2. Google Talk is on device.
3. 1 out of 4 reboots sd card not mounted.
4. Hard drives no longer work for me on 3g port, nor do they work on micro usb port with OTG cable, even with external battery suoplying power to HDD.
Reverted back to 3.2.22 again. Note that if you go back to 3.2.22, you need to "Reset multimedia library" in Repair & formatting. Otherwise, you get an error message about a problem with internal storage when using the Archos video and music players.
I'm really going to be bummed if I have to choose between firmware updates and external HDD support.

So the 512mb ram is a problem that needs to be managed:
"Music player: better protection of music player to avoid to get it killed under low memory condition"
Not a surprise and OUTSTANDING that Archos is candid about it. Kudos.

For item "3.", this is sad but normal for Honeycomb (A500, Thrive and Transformer have the issue- to some degree).
For item "4." I am hoping Archos screwed up in this update and will update again to correct this. A key selling point would be the USB host function and provide more differentiation. It would be silly for Archos not to allow full USB host function on both ports (and hurt sales). It at least needs to be for the dongle, since a full port.

No. 4: This is a regression in the firmware and is being analyzed.butterflygirl wrote:Tried 3.2.46 again today.
