Custom ROM for A7HTV2: Android 2.1 (7HTV2_21.04)

Post by birdiebnl »

Disclaimer: You apply this firmware on your own risk. This is an experimental ROM, which works for me till now. That doesn't guarantee that it works for you. This firmware is only for the A7HT Version 2!

ROMSettings v0.2 24 April 2011
- Added support for Adhoc WLAN. Now it is easy to configure Adhoc WLAN and switch between normal WLAN and Adhoc WLAN.

Download : ROMSettings.apk or go to http://www.bossink.net/rs on your A7HTV2

Version 7HTV2_21.04 23 April 2011

- Based on 7HTV2_21.03 with full-screen and sync, see below for the details.
- Added the Titanium Backup fix (error parsing package).

Download : 7htv2_21.04.sync
Download : 7htv2_21.04

Version 7HTV2_21.03 23 April 2011

- Added the fullscreen option, and the ability to switch between these fullscreen allowed and restricted-fullscreen option, without the need of a reboot. To make use of this switch functionality, simply install the ROMSettings.apk included in the download [1], and you are able to switch. If you don't want to use the fullscreen option, simply don't install the ROMSettings.apk.
When in fullscreen, a short slide of the power button to the left will bring back the notification bar with the soft buttons. (I don't know if this is valid for all apps but till now for all apps i've seen going fullscreen it worked.)
- Two versions of the ROM, one with Google Sync enabled and synching Gmail and Calendar (7htv2_21.03.sync) and one without Google Sync for the lean and mean fans (7htv2_21.03).

[1] Or you can simply go to http://www.bossink.net/rs in your browser on your Archos to get the latest version.

Download : 7htv2_21.03.sync
Download : 7htv2_21.03

Version 7HTV2_21.02 28 March 2011

Made some modifications to the 7HTV2_21.01 ROM, so now GMail is working (and included). If you don't want to use GMail and you want lean and mean, take the 7HTV2_21.01 ROM below.

Download : 7htv2_21.02

Version 7HTV2_21.01 23 March 2011

Firmware based on official Archos 7 HT V2 firmware of 28 january 2011.
- Rooted
- Google Market (minimal)
- Adhocable (permissions)
- Linpack 3.9 (3.2 in original firmware) - JIThack
- ADW.Launcher
Tried to keep it "lean and mean".

Download : 7htv2_21.01

I'm about to try this "slim" ROM. Do you think there will be no problem to "downgrade" from 22.07 which has read-write system partition? I think so, but I'm asking to be sure.

I'm not sure, i haven't tried the 22.07, i've downgraded from 22.05.
Maybe you have to use the RKAndroidTool.

What exactly does "minimal market" mean? Can I at least install the kindle app?

Ok, installed over 2.2 07, runs really fast compared to the 2.2 version. Market worked right away also. Only issue is that both internal flash and sd card say they need to be formatted, with no available space. Is there a fix for this, or have I messed up my sd card and internal storage?

Everything is still working great for now. Fixed the sd card issue, but had to format internal flash. Turns out I unplugged my usb cable during boot, just happened to be the wrong time I guess. Rebooted with the usb cable plugged in and it mounted on the pc, then I ejected both internal and sd card, turned off usb storage, and all is well. Trying to get angry birds rio as I type

I know this is against "lean and mean", but does gmail and talk work in this rom? I remember it didn't on 2011.12. Not a big deal though as e-mail can substitute gmail...

Well, so I have downgraded from 22.07 to this 21.01

It's quite easy, only problem is with read-write partiton on 22.07. The solution is easy - after the first boot it's necessary to formate the internal SD card.

Talk is working, and is installed. But i cannot get GMail working. I'm still trying, but it just won't sync the mail.

I would definetly like to try this, let me state that I didn't have any complain about the Archos stock roms, they are fast and simple. Had it not been for the lack of the market and GMail I could have kept it because for me this tablets are meant to be leand and mean email/internet/playing/video utilities. For anything else I would get a real computer. Lets see what happens. I've already 22.07 and formatted the partition for the RW /system.

I flashed this at lunch time and have had it for a few hours. I have to say I love it. Very responsive and I get to decide what goes on there.

Don't worry. Just update the Archos as usually. After first boot just mount your Archos via USB to PC and allow the computer to formate the internal SD-card.

I Tried it and I have to say, this is by far the best Rom for this tablets yet. Simple and fast. Two things, First: The toolbar to go to the applications on the right of the screen keeps dissapearing and I have to reboot and Second what would be the best way to install GMail in this thing without having to feed it up with all that google stuff...

Thanks.

Birdiebnl, thank you very much for the great work and for sharing it. 21.01 is simply great: the tablet is very fast and the theme makes it look so cool.

My only problem now is I cannot get Adobe to work: I always get "wrong file path" for all files. Can someone help me out? Xlendi, I see you submitted in another post you had problems with Adobe previously, did you manage to make it work or are you using another app?

Archix: you should try E-mail for reading/sending e-mails. It is way more lightweight than Gmail and does everything an e-mail app should do (E-mail uses IMAP and Gmail works fine with it).

This rom makes the device more responsive so that it feels like the even the screen sensitivity got better. Also it is great I do not see those rainbow strips anymore, they usually meant trouble. Also, boot time got much smaller. Great job, thanks!

That's a feature of ADW.Launcher, called the dockbar. On the dockbar you can also place shortcuts. I've set the home button binding in the settings to open close Dock Drawer. Menu -> ADW.Settings -> System Preferences -> Home button binding -> Open/close DockBar.
Now you can get it back by pressing the home button.

And for GMail, i cannot get it to work (won't sync the email), but still trying.

Adobe reader doesn't work - same issue as in original ROM. I'm using currently VuDroid and OfficeSuite trial.

The other issue - flash doesn't work for me. I tried all apk files with Adobe Flash which I have in combination with build-in browser, Opera and Skyfire (including that one which is described as "good for Android 2.1"). No combination works.

And the third - missing Google synchronization. It means no working GMail application, no Google contacts and no Google calendar.

If anybody knows how make flash or google apps working, let us know please.

But the stability and performance of 21.01 is really very good. I think also that this ROM is still the best one for our Archos 7 HT V2 devices.

What was your ROM's history? Have you installed 22.07 before? If you have it's IMHO necessary to formate internal flash card before copy anything there, because 22.07 has read-write partition.

EDIT: I was trying to re-install my 21.01 now (just to see if Archos will offer the possibility to install the ROM). Everything looks as usually (I have canceled this possiblity and after that deleted the img from the internal flash because I like this stable 21.01 ROM).
