I'm new to Archos and Android so need some tips
1) Video playback
I have video files (video codec: avc1, resolution :640x360, Frame rate:25, audio codec: mp4a, audio bitrate:1536 kb/s) that playback choppy with audio out of sync. They playback fine on my pc and iphone. I assume the files must be too fast for the device? How can I check?
I have tried changing the device power management setting to overdrive and tried MX player with playback set at S/W decoder fast mode which helps. I have tons of mp4 files saved from a tv grabber app with codecs preset so converting these files to a slower speed would be a pain. Any tips?

2) Tvcatchup.com or m.tvcatchup (UK) live tv streaming site (via WiFi)
I have tried the flash version of this site using various browsers (Dolphin HD, Opera mini, Opera mobile, Skyfire etc) and setting the browser to various settings (desktop agent, mobile, tablet) but the stream is very choppy. I have also tried the mobile version of the site but no better (perhaps tablet resolution is too big), even streamed via MX player (fast mode). I have also tried flash 11 but find version 10.2.156.12 works better. I experience the same lagging / choppy playback on bbciplayer. Any tips?

1. That specs are definately not to fast or big or anything, as the Archos can play 720p [email protected] up to 5Mbs, so there has to be something else. Did you try from a sd card or internal?

2. Some people get to cute with the parameters in h.264 video and then the hardwaredecoder can't handle that, and that side states that the they are using a patented tech to deliver the best quality there is atm, which sounds like that.
As it is a britsh only service we can't really confirm that.

Are you able to upload a testvideo somewhere?

I just tried tvcatchup for you. I'm using UrukDroid, and Dolphin HD browser and desktop agent. I watched the BBC News channel, and E4 (Hollyoaks - yuk) ok, using the low resolution option. Both of the higher resolution options were choppy. The low resolution picture was fine on my A70.
