I had never noticed the tiny icons at the bottom of each post, either. And it still took me time to see the '!' in a circle on the bottom right that is used for reporting a post.

Thank you for pointing it out, Roy!

Porno, electronics sales, links to some real bad crap. This is an Archos support site, if it doesn't really have anything to do with Archos the post is just using up resources unnecessarily.

well they are getting hit hard of late, ive been searching though the forums and have been unable to give advice or help because of these twats. if your a spammer dont waste your time, it will only be deleted and the general users on this forum HAVE BRAINS unlike you!!!!

im gona try to speak to charbax to see if we can add another layer of security on the forums until they give up.
thanks everyone, i wont reply to the reports but they are now helping the staff no end tracking these to$$ers down - i personally thank you for this, keep it up everyone,
thanks again
roy

right, we have had a busy few days here on AF, were getting hit hard by a CHILD who used to go by the name of missionsparta (pm me for his real name if you want it).
I beg of you not to reply to his posts, he has already called me a very personal name (it was that bad - and being a father i was and am livid with this waster), personally attacked charbax and it touting other sites. as usual we have to remove the posts but your account could easily end up being removed or banned if you have replied to any of this idiots posts.
so please dont reply to any of these SPAM POSTS PLEASE - make the staffs job easier - he will soon get the message that we all think he is an idiot and go away if we all ignore him
thanks
roy

Well at the moment we have no confirmation of whether the user is a bot or a person intent on creating post after post

one way of resolving the issue is to add a "captcha"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captcha

or to add a flood limit time out (thus limiting the amount of posts made during a certain time)

Martin

The problem is that methods designed to prevent automated system spamming won't stop a determined human. If it's a persistent problem, it might be better to configure the forum software that a new user's first few posts have to be reviewed by a moderator. It's a drag for new users, but it cuts out all but the most determined of human spammers.

i have mentioned this to charbax a number of times now and dont mind doing this myself, he is currently looking for a plug that will stop spammers posting in general forums until they are approved by other members - this would work if everyone involved done thier bit, as soon as someone has been marked as a spammer the staff can then disable the account. we will wait and see what he does - hopefully it will be very soon.

Can't we set a rank where those people need their posts moderated then when they reach a certain amount of posts the moderation will be removed? i know this is possible in Phpbb3

Is this a built-in feature of phpbb3 or a plugin?

http://phpbb.com is now back up, so I am looking for the right plugin which will add that layer of approving first post for new users. The approval I think should be done by all other users who have more than for example 50 posts or something..

Where the list of first posts could be in a section by itself or at the bottom or the top of each forum section.

Just to bring this back to peoples attn. DONT REPLY TO SPAM POSTS!!!!
I very nearly banned another member today after the member replied to spam by accident, the staff on this board have full time jobs as well as family to look after so just hit that report and ignore any other posts from that member - there is no point moaning about it still being there if the staff members are at work!.

ALSO, all members DONT EVER TOUCH Aiseesoft conversion program. We get so much spam from them that they could never be a legit company. No legit company would act the way this company has, point of fact is if thier software was any good they wouldnt need to spam?!.
If no one from here ever clicks there links to thier bad ware they will eventually give up.

take care out there, DONT REPLY TO SPAM!!!!!!

roy
