i get often the message that system memory gets full, and when i look at storage info i have only 25mb left. but when i calculate all my downloaded apps, out of app management, also the apps on the sd i count no more then 50mb. so i must have 200 mb left, anyone an idea what the problem is?

If it's not the programs, it's the Data they are saving.
All browsers are known to use /data/data for their cache, search in the settings, some offer to put them on sd.

Get CacheMate or similar to check the caches.

If you don't have root, everything else is alittle bit difficult.

I find I need about 60 free in the appspace or performance suffers. Have you pushed apps that will allow it to sdcard (directory, not an actual card) in settings/app/app mgt/downloaded then click on the app? This should free up about half of your space, but you have to be patient when booting and give it a LOT of time to get sorted out (don't touch the screen until icons have turned from generic to real). This is a huge subject much discussed on the general gen 8 subforum - not specific to 43. It allows quite a lot of apps. Use the sort by size option when under downloads.

did you mean to create a directory named sdcard on the archos root directory? and after that in app maintenance in downloaded look wich apps can move to the newdirectory?

No, just push the settings buttons. Discussed in other forum

Sorry, I've been so busy removing spam that I wasn't very clear or polite, and didn't have time to search. To summarize... (I think there are apps to do this process too)

1) enter settings/app/app mgt/downloaded.
2) (optional step is to hit options and sort applist by biggest first.)
3) click on an app and look for "move to sdcard" button which you can hit if not greyed out
4) if it refuses, hit it again! (there is no need for actual sdcard - it just puts parts of app in a hidden directory)

This should clear up tremendous appspace. Under settings, there is a list next to downloaded where you can see which have been partially moved. When you add more apps, I would still leave about 50mb or more free or else things may run slow or get stuck.

5) if your device seems to get confused or stuck while pushing to sdcard, reboot. In fact I would reboot a couple times after doing all this so it can get settled or organized.
6) the one bad side effect is your booting will slow down. Or you should slow down and not touch the screen for the extra minute or two it takes to show the icons properly on the launcher screen. You might think apps become "lost" sometimes with a generic icon, but they are still there. Just reboot and wait... Normally you will benefit by not turning it off, but go into sleep with a tap to the button.

you where polite enough to help me to solve my problem, thanks for that.

i always put it to sleep, it only turns complete off when the battery is empty,or with a system faillure

i used already an app2sd app, checking your way, ans all the posible apps where already on my sd, your way shows only grey and move to telephone icons.

i have bin counting my total app sizes, this is what i found:

total downloaded apps 23 total size 35mb
apps on sd 11, size 16mb
so there will be 19 mb left for the archos memory.

i guess there's something else soaking op my app-space, space is changing without dowloading apps,5 days ago 36mb,at this moment 27mb

I have the same problem as the OP.

I have a 32GB SD card and 16GB on the 4.3 but I get "not enough space" errors

I have tried all of the fixes above (thank you) -

How does one use the internal space and external SD card? Is that only for songs and movies? :?:
Thank you for your help, I am totally newbie with Android (but love it!)
