Well, I FINALLY managed to install the market hack, using Arctools, from appslib.
Here's the trick:
The Market hack MUST BE THE FIRST thing you install when the device is brand-new. EDIT: THIS MAY BE WRONG!
I have read here and elsewhere that you have to "do a reset" before installing the market. For most people in most places, that phrase just means the same thing as "reboot".
Here's what "reset" means in the context of the Market hack:
Go to "Settings->Repair and Formatting->Reset Android".
This will DELETE every single app you have ever downloaded from AppsLib or elsewhere (which you will now have to re-purchase), but it does not delete your private data (even though ominous messages will appear telling you that it is reformatting your SD card!). It will then walk you through the same setup procedure as when you first started up the device for the first time.
As soon as the setup is finished, IMMEDIATELY open AppsLib and install ArcTools and REBOOT.
Your information appears to be TOTALLY WRONG as I can confirm from having just done it sucessfully on my second Archos 43, purchased last week. My first Archos 43, has had the Market hack for about a year. Warning do not follow the above reformating unless you have tried several times and searched repeatedly as there are more than one market hacks floating about. If the first one doesn't work, try it again, and again and then go searching for another hopefully newer hack that works.
Your information appears to be incorrect and may have people reformating/deleting purchased applications that need not be deleted.
Here is what I did with my new Archos 43 purchased new March 11, 2012:
I muddled about for a couple of days slowly setting up multiple email accounts, purchasing a couple of vital apps from the AppsLib, installing some other apps from the AppsLib, from AppBrain, GetJar and those I had downloaded using my PC for my other Archos 43 purchased last year and watching videos. Finally yesterday, I tried to install a market hack that may have been sucessful on my first Archos 43. It didn't work and gave me a message saying that it only worked for Eclair.
Frustrated, I went to Google and found the following:http://www.arctablet.com/blog/archos-ta ... ube-fixed/
It worked allowing me to install the Arctools/Market hack that was almost immediately updated to the new Google "Play Store".
In summary, reformating MAY be unecessary even if you have installed other apps using the AppsLib or other sources but if this method doesn't work and you have searched carefully for newer market hacks and "play store" hacks, you may still need to do it but I didn't
