I just installed the new FW update 2.3.81 and notice my storage is now (down to) 6.94GB. I thought it was about 8GB, but I could be mistaken.
I assume that each time we download a new FW update, which have always beens around 85MB, the storage space will keep decreasing.
#1- If that true, and, could our Archos 32 eventually run out of free space?
#2- Why are the FW updates always so large (85MB)?
#3- What are the changes in this newest FW update and did I need all the changes as an occassional user?
#4- And do I always have to keep downloading new FW updates?
$5- If I skipped one FW update and then did a later FW update, would that later FW update also include the previous FW that I skipped and therefore the new FW update would be 160GB? If that is true, then I wouldn't save any space by skipping a FW update. True?

Thank you for any help.
Alice

#1- No, the new firmware overwrites the old firmware.
#2- 85MB isn't very large for an operating system.
#3- See the change log on the first post of the 2.3.81 update thread (in the gen 8 forum), or on Archos' website.
#4- No, you don't have to keep downloading new FW updates.
#5- No, the FW updates overwrite whatever FW you happen to be running.

Keep in mind that new firmware does not add to or modify the old firmware. It simply overwrites it. It's always a good idea to check the change log before putting new FW on your 32. I know there are many folks on this forum who have to have the latest and greatest FW, but I'm from the 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' school of thought. My 32 is still at 2.1.04, because that version works fine for me. If your 32 does what you want it to do, it's okay to stick with an older version of the FW. If you see something in the change log that you think you might like, then install the new FW. Oh, and 6.94GB of storage sounds about right.
