Second way for the Market on FROYO

1. - install Appslib from archos site
2. - install Terminal emulator from Appslib
3. - uncompress the market.rar on your pc (in c:\market) for example url from the market.rar http://dl.free.fr/hR3wuEujb
4. - plug Gen8 device in USB (without USB development option)
5. - copy the directory market on the Gen8 device on the root directory
6. - unplug the device
7. - launch Terminal Emulator
8. - type "cd data/test"
9. - "mkdir -p froyo/system/app"
10. - "cd froyo/system/app"
11. - "cp /sdcard/market/*.apk ."
12. - "ls -l" to check that all the apk are here
13. - reboot and enjoy

those were the easiest instructions to follow, and worked perfectly! now linked with my google account
and the software i had purchased when i was on 2.1 still shows as "purchased" in the market, so i just have to dl again.

!! that was my project for the night, and you finished it for me!

What's the purpose of this?? I dont have a 'data/test' directory

9. - "mkdir -p froyo/system/app"

Where is this being created? We dont have write access to root

I'm struggling with using Terminal Emulator for some reason. The instructions seems very straight forward. I'm maybe missing something in the simplicity of the emulator.

I omitted the /sdcard as I just copied the folder into the root of the archos directory. So I use /market/*.apk instead. Is this correct?

After I typed that, I got BusyBox v1.7.2 (2010-11-26 4:00:17 CET) and it just freezes.

market is crashing very often for me with hack. market (process com.android.vending) has stopped unexpectedly error.

have rebooted a few times and still the same. Gmail seems ok.

make sure you dont forget the space and full stop at the end of this part

if this market error is a common problem, i'd wait for a different hack. Seems to freeze a lot aswell with it.

I finally got adb working and even though 'data' is read only, 'data/test' is available...wierd

Since i got adb working, i just ran the 'apkadd.bat' command script to adb push the files over.

I havent got my 101 yet, but I believe the 101 uses 'sdcard' as it's titloe for it's internal memory, so you would still need to keep that in there when typing.

these are the 2.1 files I believe. The date/time on them report 2008. That is why the market is crashing. I'm going to grab the 2.2 market from my Samsung Fascinate and try that.

so is as simple as "backing up" market and adding that to the apk list? I wonder if it is that simple. Have you tried a different market yet?

I tried it and it messed it up. Maybe these files are correct, but have bogus timestamps on them.

Doh!!! I did the first way of installing market, screwed up and reinitialized device, now I don't have any of the third party stuff on my device, anyone help me, what is gone and how can I get it back, eh can someone copy the folders I may have erased and post them somewhere?

The comment that these are 2.1 files might be right.

Also a few apps like Elk Droid and Baby ESP that seem to use higher security are not showing up in market. Now it could be a differnt issue but i am 99% sure there where there in 2.1 with market

Could someone with 2.1 with the market hack look for Elk Droid and/or Baby ESP and see is there are there? Not that too many other people would care about those two apps unless you care to track when your baby eat, sleeps, and poops (ESP) but it does seem to point to the fact that the included market.apk doesnt work as well as 2.1 version. If you can search for elkdroid and find it and/or find the $3.99 pay version of Baby ESP with 2.1+ market hack there is certainly something differnt here.

Now of course this has only been out a few hours, so not being critical. I am amazed you guys got something out at all this fast. I just wanted to point out the support for apps that seem to use the newer google authentication schemes does not seem to be included in this version.

just to a factory reset, it'll bring you back to the initial setup wizard where you can reinstall those apps.

You can also just skip the terminal. Just make the directory /data/test/froyo/system/app on your computer. Paste the apk files in there and paste te .bak file in your homedir and restart.

Install the market using vendor.apk in the filebrowser.

Just don`t get the market to start. So this is the 2.1 market and it won`t start using 2.2

I did use the setup wizard, says no third party apps available anymore.
