As I was in California to video-blog the ARM Technology Conference in Santa Clara on my http://ARMdevices.net, I thought I'd suggest Archos send me some extra Gen8 so that I could use those as excuse to bring them to the Twit Cottage in Petaluma, as I am a fan of the Twit podcasting network, the most advanced high quality production quality podcast network, I watched most of the Twit and Twig shows since 2006. The weekly Twit podcasts (they do about 20 weekly, some even daily podcasts!) are some of the most influential and popular technology audio and video podcasts worldwide.
In this episode of MacBreak Weekly, Leo Laporte, Alex Lindsay, Merlin Mann and Andy Ihnatko discuss the Archos 70 Internet Tablets versus the iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab. In the embed below of MacBreak Weekly episode 221, I forward the video to about the 1h01m30s time code when they start talking about the Archos tablets (they mention the Archos 7 Home Tablet Amazon pricing for a few minutes).

I can't blame Leo at all for mixing up the previous gen 7" tablet with the gen 8. It was quite a while before I figured it out.
They either need more unique names, or just call them "gen 7" and "gen 8"

Actually, the Archos 7 Home Tablet is not Gen7 but it's a kind of a low cost side project in a different ARM9 resistive based category that they kind of release in-between the two yearly generations. I know it can be confusing. But cool it is that Leo Laporte talks about Archos while I think he kind of missed talking enough about them all those years. He gave Archos "Best of CES" when he was at Tech TV in 2004 or so. And I remember one Daily GizWiz in 2006 that was about Archos, something like that. With all the constant talk on Apple and other expensive Android devices, you'd agree it's well deserved they at least know it exists!warlock257 wrote:I can't blame Leo at all for mixing up the previous gen 7" tablet with the gen 8. Anyways, I had lots of fun visiting Leo Laporte's Twit Cottage. Even though it took me ridiculous nearly 8 hours back and forward from San Jose south of the Bay Area to Petaluma north there using the caltrain and golden gate bus transit public transportation. I heard they are expanding to some huger studios in the area, to be able to produce even greater podcast shows.

I bought the 5IT in Oct 2009 and lived through the bad media and user review and plentiful supply.
It's interesting now to be living through the Gen8 release with great reviews and at least for the 101 and 70 very little supply in the USA at least for now.
Someday I'll get my 101 and 70 and be able to contribute more. For now, I'm really happy for Archos and us, and I realize the Gen7 is what gave Archos the experience to develop the Gen8s.
For Gen7 Archos developers, mainly nz, spent a lot of time listening to members of ArchosFans.com Support Forum and the results showed as the 5IT became better with each of its numerous updates. So, its nice to see nz with us again for the Gen8s helping us to fine tune excellent tablets into great tablets.
Too bad they got messed up with the price and a couple of other items.
Thanks for the video Charbax
