And its new firmware with no sign of Froyo, if they are tweaking 2.1 that can┬┤t be good.

I imagine for the most part that small tweaks can be carried forward to the new release.

These are not earth shattering changes after all, just small improvements.

who knows, maybe they discovered these problems in 2.2, but feel it is important to get out now. But more likely is they are getting feedback from 32 users and are making changes to the whole line.

Most of those changes just sound like forgotten features removed from the production firmware.
They have no horry for the 2.2 upgrade as there is not yet that many devices out.

If I worked at Archos I would continue to polish the bugs from the 2.1 firmware and continue to internal test the 2.2 until the actual mass marketing starts.
They may even make it possible that you can have the 2.1 or 2.2 version just for people that do not want to be the first hand end users for 2.2 firmware.

Looking at the release notes makes me wonder that do they even have a testing organization. Some of the problems are so obious that they have not been tested at all.

I am pleased that Archos is already providing firmware updates. This bodes well for rapid and continued support for Gen 8.

looks like archos is tweaking their video and img apps and other proprietary software,, but these tweaks are not really implemented in the android core system. so it could be just a simple port over to 2.2, IMO ( i am no developper or software techie, so correct me if i am wrong here)
meaning that transition to 2.2 will be rather smooth and swift and could be happening fast(hopefully before end of november)

Yeah, their media software is just another android app, so just like many apps that were designed for Eclair ,ran on Froyo without any port.

If we are going to install g4apps4archos.apk, should we first upgrade the firmware to 1.0.84? Or should we update the firmware after the g4apps4archos?

Or maybe a better question is... Does this firmware allow us to still use the g4apps4archos?

Thanks.

update to 1.0.84 first. If you do it with 1.0.41 your device will have problems booting

As Suggested by d00b...

Please report any bugs you are might be experiencing here...

Wifi

When the screen goes off, and I switch it back on, the wifi is disconnected and then after a few seconds it comes back on. The main headache is that when I am playing a file or exploring the network, I have to restart whatever I am doing, and sometime I have to switch of wifi and switch it back on to get the wifi going again.
