Hi!

My PMA400 hard drive crashed lately (started making that click-click noise).
Since it's quite difficult to find a new compatible drive for it, I decided to replace it with a 32GB CF card with CF->2.5" HDD adapter.

At first everything seemed fine. Copied system files to the card, started the PMA, went through the usual calibration-timezone-personal-information steps. Desktop comes up and everything is nice... until I press a button on the player. A second or two after that, player restarts itself (I'm back in the beginning of the calibration process). There have been also couple of restart without any button pressing.

So where's the catch? Some CF card compatibility issues?
Ideas are welcome...

First of all: congratulations  ... i've never heard of that and i searched a lot for hd replacements.
My HD has had some problems lately - when i move the player around(like just picking it up from the desk) it crashes.
I don't have any idea concerning your problem, but please tell me, when you find out something.
Could you post some information about the card and the converter though? I'd like to try that out too.

Thanks,
sebi

Hi,

I have a PMA430 with the same problem.
Also I wanted to take out the 1,8" hitaschi disk. and replace it with a shock proof Compact Flash card.
So I did.
GOt a CF-IDE2.5" converter. a 8GB Compact Flash card.
Run boot crack with the original drive to be able to change the img file and other data.
Problem with the converter the underside was to high so I shaved off the exess matherial. and now it fits flat in the PMA.
(pictures will follow.)
Then I formatted the Compact flash card with Partition Magic 10.
The following: FAT32 LBA 16K cluster size. Disk label: PMA400 (16K important else the img file will not be loaded.)
Then put the card in the PMA and started it with USB connected.
Transferd the recovery.zip data to the PMA.
Safely removed hardware from windows.
Took the USB cable out of the device.
Qtopiastarted with calibration screen.
After a few minutes the device booted again and asked for the calibration again.

So far I think I have done the same steps.
Then I took a look at the file browser and found that there were no documents or folders below PMA400.
When looking further I found that Qtopia did some how not mount the DISK inside of the IMG file.
What I suspect is that Qtopia the Adapter detects as a removable divice and not as a hard disk. And fails to mount the folders needed by the applications and also the location to store the configuration settings.
By using the terminal in Qtopiaon the PMA I am looking to find some proof but have not mutch knowledge on where to look.

I am not able to find a SDK for the 1.7.x version of Qtopia on the web site of the vendor.

Today one step onwards.
Try to put OpenPMA on the CF card. and Yes it gives an error:
Rezizing media partition [ Failed]
This would mean OpenPMA and Qtopia do not see the CF2IDE adapter with CF card as a Hard disk.

So I need to have an other CF2IDE adapter that will be seen as a HDD or Need to find a way to get OpenPMA 0.2 or Qtopia to work from the CF card.

Hi!

I gave up on that topic a long time ago... :D

No, don't change your adapter, that's fine. The problem lies in CF card.
You need to somehow "reprogram" your card to work in "fixed disk mode". For SanDisk cards there was a special utility for that floating around in the net...
