Eh, that post was from a few days ago. We're just getting into the nitty gritty of the mic mystery right now. No need to necro this thread. I'm still following the other one waiting for newer pics.buster8079 wrote:Actually the microphone was not (and is not) next to the speaker on the Archos 5A, see... http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=30109seraphimprime wrote:Microphone is still next to the speaker.

No, I am well aware that it was from way back (a couple of days ago, necro, huh?) when... I also know that you are engaged on the thread referenced. I only like to tie the strings tight (for the record), especially if someone winds up here and not there, it is for the benefit of others beyond you, I simply quoted the statement that may very well come up in a future search, Google or otherwise. Nothing personal, man.seraphimprime wrote:Eh, that post was from a few days ago. We're just getting into the nitty gritty of the mic mystery right now. No need to necro this thread. DataMind news - 28 January 2010: Release of Archos product i
On 26 January 2010 a reliable UK source of Archos information sent DataMind news & prices of five new Archos devices. No mention was made to DataMind by the source that these products were on embargo. On 26 January DataMind added these products to the website www.Data-Mind.co.uk. At noon on 27 January Archos UK requested that DataMind remove all five products from the website. DataMind immediately complied with this request. On 28 January Archos UK thanked DataMind for the prompt action taken.
DataMind (a division of Megapixels Ltd) has been an Archos UK e-tailer www.DataMind.co.uk since 2002.

Re: Woah! The Archos 7 Android!
ive been looking into The Archos 5 IT and was looking forward to purchasing it..
but now that the Archos 7 with Android is leaked?? should i wait till march or go ahead with the Archos 5 IT and download the Google market Hack and be happy?
It looks like there are no google icons on the pic of the 7, and instead of Google Map its another form of navigation (i assume its not going to be better).
is Archos 7 with Android going to be worth the wait?
if i wait, i hope that its not going to be dissapointment like the apple fans of the "iTampon."

If the can ever iron out all the bugs with the Archos 5 IT, I'd still rather have it over the Archos7. Mainly because of its size....I really enjoy the size of the 5. The 7 just looks like too much..

Do you know if in this case "on embargo" means Archos had decided to not to make these devices or that Archos simply wasn't willing to release info about them yet? Is there any further word about whether the Archos 7 IT is actually real?chris-street wrote:On 26 January 2010 a reliable UK source of Archos information sent DataMind news & prices of five new Archos devices. I really don't have any doubt it's real. data-mind.co.uk really are a respectable company and a definite dedicated Archos supplier. they've got a better stock and layout than most sites that have Archos'. there's a very good chance they got a preview from somewhere in particular and the holder for that page is definitely also real.
the mock-up image could well be fake, but the device? I'd say it'll be released within the next few weeks, or at most in a month's time.

Re: Woah! The Archos 7 Android!
This device looks interesting. I think it's particularly so after recent news. Apple's new iPad for instance seems to only have battery life and possibly screen over the Archos 9, but with Documents to Go I have all I need for office apps on my Archos. But price? I saw today info on Dell's new 5 inch mid which has built in 3G (for extra costs I'd prefer with bluetooth tethering) and a 5 megapixel camera. Okay, $1,000?
The Archos 9 would be intriguing with a faster processor. The Archos 7 with Android 2.1 I think would be very interesting. I'm sure it would be nice with 1.6 but they will all be nicer with software taking advantage of the hardware acceleration and Flash. Given my experience with the 5 IMT and the difference in battery with the previous gen 5 and 7 I would not be surprised if the 7 is an all day device. My one request would be a video camera that can pivot to look front and back.

Re: Woah! The Archos 7 Android!
Not if they leaked these informations by mistake and not by purpose of Archos wanting to spread these informations on the day of the release of the Apple iPad.WantToGloom wrote:data-mind.co.uk really are a respectable company
No retailer should ever release any informations about any product if they know that they may be the first ones to leak such informations. It's really not very hard for such retailers to just do some Google searches or to browse a few clicks on the manufacturers website to see if informations on the products have been released officially yet or not.
Anyways, it seems to consistently be Archos UK leaking all product informations early, they have consistently leaked infos early for years now.

My recommendations on Archos cheap Android Tablet revolution
In terms of the recently rumored £149 pricing for Archos 7 Internet Tablet (8GB), I was very positively surprised by the completely insanely cheap price target!!!!!
This is absolutely the kind of pricing that I would expect Archos to be able to reach. I know Archos can do it. Cheaper prices could convince the masses to buy Archos instead of Apple.
Here are my suggestions as to what I think Archos should target the pricing of the whole high-end Archos Android Tablet range in the coming couple of months. Make sure to only read these prices as my speculation on what the prices are that Archos could now try to target:
A5A (8GB) $179 = 159Ôé¼ = ┬ú139
A7A (8GB) $199 = 179Ôé¼ = ┬ú149
A9A (8GB) $239 = 209Ôé¼ = ┬ú169
A10A (8GB) $279 = 239Ôé¼ = ┬ú199
For more capacity additional pricing should be something like this:
16GB + $50 = 40Ôé¼ = ┬ú30
32GB + $75 = 60Ôé¼ = ┬ú45
64GB + $150 = 120Ôé¼ = ┬ú90
250GB + $75 = 60Ôé¼ = ┬ú45
500GB + $150 = 120Ôé¼ = ┬ú90
For built-in HSDPA additional pricing should be still unlocked:
Built-in Unlocked HSDPA SIM Card Reader + $50 = 40Ôé¼ = ┬ú30
I think all new Archos tablets should come with the OMAP3640 1ghz 45nm processor, 512MB RAM, Pixel Qi screen technology, Camera, Compass and snap-on foldable Keyboard that doubles as a screen protector.
It would be nice that Archos reach super stable Android 2.1 Eclair firmware soon on the whole range, with the optimal RAM utilization, stable power management and stable Android applications support.
If the newer 1ghz processor improves the MKV 720p High Profile bitrate support then that would be great as well. The target should be to support 99.99% of all MKV movie files that are available on the Internet.
If Archos could lower the amount of bezel around the screen to cover if possible less than 10% of the overall surface area of the product, that would be great.
Built-in full sized HDMI output, built-in AC Adaptor connector, built-in full sized USB-host and full sized SDHC support instead of MicroSDHC card support I think could be meaningful goals as well.
From then on, Archos can then work to integrate the OMAP4 ARM Cortex A9 based processor on the next generation of Archos Android Tablets, which can add 1080p encode/decode, 20megapixel photos (if the optics of the photo camera mode can be made good enough), up to dual-core 2ghz processing speed for even faster web browsing speeds, a processor fast enough to run the full high resolution Google Chrome web browser within the Android OS.

Re: Woah! The Archos 7 Android!
Regarding embargoed information:
When information is embargoed, it definitely means the device will never come out.
A perfect case in point... Apple embargoed all information on the iPad and before that the iPhone and iPod Touch. And we all know those never came out!
Er... wait, that's not right...
Okay, maybe companies just embargo information because they want to be able to make the actual announcement of the device a bit of an event that can actually draw some attention as opposed to just being another yawner like most pre-leaked product announcements are.
Or so it seems to me.

...And a quick call back to the microphone discussion... when I thought the microphone was right next to the speaker, at least I had some idea about why it was clipping whenever the speaker was going. Now I have no clue...
My current supposition is that it might have something to do with the way the firmware is accessing those two devices in a problematic way when they're both working at the same time. If that's the case, that's good because it might be fixable in firmware.

Either you're trying to make a joke or you mean $150 less than whatever a suggested retail price would be (64GB + $150 = 120Ôé¼ = ┬ú90). Although a $150 64GB device would be a dream come true, no company in their right mind would sell one that cheap when they know they can price it much much higher and people will still go out and buy it.Charbax wrote: A5A (8GB) $179 = 159Ôé¼ = ┬ú139

Or did you mean something like A5A (8GB) $179 = 159Ôé¼ = ┬ú139 plus $150 more if it were 64GB? That would be realistic and a good deal. And definitely do-able in my opinion.

I'm not convinced that the microphone clipping has anything to do with proximity to a speaker.map002 wrote:...And a quick call back to the microphone discussion... when I thought the microphone was right next to the speaker, at least I had some idea about why it was clipping whenever the speaker was going. I have run important meetings where I wanted a backup recording, so I used 2 devices to record. I noticed that the Archos was MUCH more sensitive than my regular voice recorder. It didn't take much at all to get the microphone to clip regularly and often.
Consequently, I now place the Archos MUCH farther away from subjects that are speaking...
But the quality of the recordings are excellent. If there were a record level slider, or microphone calibration utility, then things could get interesting indeed! Just hope it doesn't "auto-level" which is more often poorly implemented than not unless the company REALLY knows what they are doing with the logic behind the detection routine.

Re: Woah! The Archos 7 Android!
Yup obviously, the higher capacity prices that I suggest are the cost you have to add to the basic 8GB versions.munkytown71 wrote:Or did you mean something like A5A (8GB) $179 = 159Ôé¼ = ┬ú139 plus $150 more if it were 64GB? So for example:
A5A 64GB or 500GB could be $329
A9A 32GB or 250GB could be $314
A7A 32GB with HSDPA could be $324
Re: Woah! The Archos 7 Android!
I love the way you think Charbax.
Re: Woah! The Archos 7 Android!
You might get the SIM card reader for £30 but that would be no use without the HSDPA radio it needs and which i highly doubt you'll get for an extra £30 per unit !
