Feel free to post your own Linux install tutorials here! I need help figuring out which ones can be done, and can't be done.

First Distro: Jolicloud

The following document contains the instructions to load Joli-OS-1.1+ onto your: (Archos 9) Device. Enjoy

-Wifi works OTB!

-GMA 500 Works OTB [Although I'm unsure about the 3D]

-Touchscreen N/A

1.) Open a terminal window (linux version of cmd prompt) by pressing {Alt+f1} in this window, type copy the following command:

sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

This brings up your xorg configuration file, this must be edited to stop flashing screen boot (still not 100% fixed)

2.) In the xorg.conf window, copy the following text:

Section "Device"
Identifier "Configured Video Device"
Driver "psb"
Option "ShadowFB" "True"
Option "DRI" "off"

This prevents the black screen "crash" on boots following the installation of the eGalaxTouch drivers. Save this file.

5.) Open a new terminal {alt+f1} and in this window copy the following command:

sudo gedit /etc/default/grub

6.) Then replace the "GRUB_CMD_LINUX:" line with the corresponding one provided here:

GRUB_CMD_LINUX: i8042.nomux

once this is done, save the grub file. Also Check the line you put the new line under! If done incorrectly this leads to the black screen on boot!

7.) Now in the terminal window, run the command:

Sudo Update-Grub

8.) The final file to edit! Open a new terminal and copy the following command:

sudo gedit /etc/rc.local

9.) With the rc.local file open, add this line before the "Exit 0" command:

echo -n "serio_raw" > /sys/bus/serio/devices/serio1/drvctl

once this is done, save the file.

10.) Installation of these drivers is simple but takes (5) steps. Enter each of the following into your terminal window.

a.) wget ... k26.tar.gz
b.) sudo tar -zxvf eGalaxTouch*
c.) cd eGalaxTouch32
d.) sudo ./
e.) When prompted, press {2} to indicate the PS/2 controller

If you didn't get a flashing black screen, kudos to you! (took me 3~4 tries to get it right :P )

13.) Open a new terminal {alt+f1} and copy:

This will bring up the eGalaxTouch configuration utility, select your preference for linearization, and enjoy jolicloud!

Note: Sometimes it will come up with a prompt that reads: "no device dected" I do not know the cause of this error...

Quick Notes:(Read before install!!!)
-Video Playback of files stored on the HDD are choppy, because of no software acceleration.
-Youtube Video's playback fine on anything from 360-480p (720 is choppy, but watchable)
-OnBoard virtual keyboard doesn't work, it takes up the full screen. Easy fix is to download cellwriter.
-Remember, this isn't chromium OS, it has most if not all of the capabilities of Ubuntu! (local apps, more can be downloaded through sympatic package manager)
-I will add more as time progresses
