Hi Guys,

only just come across the A9. Want to ask some other kinds of questions here.

I do not need a media only tablet. I want to use the A9 like a ultraportable pc. This would entail, installing stuff like LabView, Matlab, Mathcad, Garmin Mapsource. Then being able to use USB data loggers, USB and Bluetooth GPS receivers.

Does anybody have any info to share on this?

Thanks

George

Hi George,

You can load just about any Windows compatible program (Photoshop might not work too well). While my A9 does not run your program mix but I have been running the Garmin program on my HP2133 without issue. Also run Mechanical Desktop 5 on the HP and have done 3D modeling designs on it. The HP is a netbook with somewhat similar hardware. I would not imagine that any of your analytical programs listed would require huge resources. Example, here is a URL to the Labview system requirements [http://www.ni.com/labview/requirements/]. Looks like it should work on the A9. Currently my heaviest A9 program is MS Office 2007.
There is only 1 USB port on the unit so if you need to run multiple devices a small hub would be needed. There is a port replicator available that adds 2 additional USB ports but I would not recommend it for mobile use as the ribbon cable could be damaged.
A nice feature of the A9 is that the battery is removable so you could have extras available to pop in while on the road but the battery life is about 4+ hours so that might be sufficient. I have not seen any battery charging stations available and that is sort of a disadvantage because the A9 is needed to charge any extra batteries.
For connectivity I have been using the Virgin Mobile 3G USB dongle and it works GREAT in the absence of a WiFi signal. A MiFi would be an excellent choice, too. There is a nice Bluetooth keyboard on Amazon that I'd really like to try out [http://tinyurl.com/2wjw9ds] and it has good reviews.

So far I really like my A9 for business travel and highly recommend it for anyone that is somewhat computer savvy. One last thing. A clean install of Windows 7 Starter seemed to really wake up performance. I don't really know why. It could be that I was impatient on the Windows updates. I currently have automatic updates shut off and manually check a couple of times a week. Also I am current running Win7 Home Premium.

Hope this helps.

SteveB
