To any owners of this device,

how is the battery life ? with wifi on/off? Whats the start up time? YOu can obviousy leave the device in hibernation, how doe this affect the battery life?

Is it suitable for reading ebooks? Can the screen be rotated? HOw reflective is the screen? it does not look glossy too me.

Ive heard alot of ppl say is slow and laggy, can you upgrade the ram? Is upgrading the harddrive difficult?

Does Hulu work?

How is the quality of the webcam?

Whats the best operating system??

Right now im trying to decide between the archos 101 and the archos 9. I can get the archos 9 for 399 free shipping which i think is a good price but I wans the best device for reading ebooks on the go and checking email/writing notes in classes and watching content on the web. thanks!

You really should do some searches on this site. Most if not all of the questions you pose have been answered in previous threads.

I have not had any of the issues that you are talking about with my archos 9. I have had a 1-2 lags, but nothing serious. Battery life is good with 3.5 hours being the average. The web cam is ok. I have not tried hula yet,but I'll let you know.- Ben

Aloha Underthebed,

Interesting name, can you tell us the story?

I've had my A9 for a couple of weeks now. Because I got an iPad in about the same time I've spent less time with the A9 than I would otherwise have.

Since this is my first Win7 PC I've decided not to consider moving from Win7 Starter until I've got it doing or not doing all I want to do. So far, the only thing it won't do is let me change the wallpaper. Through Win7 updates I got the MS Onscreen Keyboard which is much nicer than the Archos delivered keyboard.

See my answers below:

Don't know
Whats the start up time?
<2 min if no updates

No hibernate with Win7 Starter
Is it suitable for reading ebooks?
Yes, I have Kindle on mine
Can the screen be rotated?
Yes, I haven't found the simplest way yet. No autorotate
HOw reflective is the screen? it does not look glossy too me.
Sunlight is not my friend

Not without good soldering skills
Is upgrading the harddrive difficult?
You can even replace with PATA-ZIF SSD
Does Hulu work?
Yes - with the usual internet traffic disclaimer
How is the quality of the webcam?
I haven't gotten there yet
Whats the best operating system??
Don't know

Ebooks should be better on the A101 because of Autorotate.

Checking email should be about the same.

Taking notes in class may be a problem with both. Win7 Pro has better handwriting to text from what I've read on this forum. For this type of use I'd probably go with a netbook.

The A101 should be better for the web because of the larger screen size.

Battery life should be better on the A101 because no hard drive.

I don't think current technology is there for you yet. Maybe this time next year.

Hope this helps,

Allen
