Regarding the drive, I removed the drive and connected it directly to my PC
Hi there, Never posted on a forum before so don't know if I am making sense....
Saw the above quote on the last answer and I want to know how can I connect my Archos 5 500gb hard drive directly to my computer?
I have an old one that will not start up anymore, dropped it and when I turn it on it makes a very audible noise, think it's the hard drive out of place or something, but I was wondering if I could take out the hard drive and connect to my PC in order to try and recover the info on the hard drive.
Novice so please don't use overly technical terms! Do I need to buy a specific adapter to house the hard drive in to connect to PC or can I do it with a normal USB cable...?
Sorry for my dumbassedness but any help would be appriciated!
No need to apologize. After you remove your hard drive, identify which connector it has by using this image

Once you verify that, the cheapest way to connect it to you computer is by buying an enclosure. Go to a site like newegg.com and search for
2.5 Sata enclosure or
laptop sata enclosureIf you already have a portable external hard drive, you can try opening that enclosure and swaping out the drives.
Once you get the hard drive in an enclosure you can connect it to your pc.
