Perhaps it's for Android 2.x?

Perhaps it's the weather...

The actual requirements, from the Slimgmedia web page:

ÔÇóA supported Android phone with 3G or 4G wireless service or Wi-Fi Internet connectivity
ÔÇóAndroid 1.5 or later
ÔÇóNetwork download speed of 150Kbps (or higher)

So, why not the Archos 5?

Ah, 'supported phone' usually means they have a white list of devices that can see the app to avoid incompatible or underperforming devices dragging down the app's ratings or causing support issues. I'm guessing the A5A's not on that list since it's not even technically allowed in the Market... :D

I imagine the app is free so it would be OK to post somewhere? I don't have a SlingBox but I might consider it if it worked on the A5A.

If it is free, someone could always throw it up on the Wiki.

However, don't throw up on the Wiki, because that would be terrible and impolite and Buster would cry and no one wants that, now do they?

Well folks, you might want to try contacting Slingbox directly and let them know you want to buy this app! Perhaps they'll work something out for you!

I'm thinking we can't see it due to the frankensteined method by which the market has come to the A5A. While paid apps are showing up for us, (for whatever reason they are) I'm thinking they are only partly showing.

Shows up on the Evo and the Droid marketplace. I bought it and it works great. Fast!

There are other places you could look for the apk, that will allow you to install to the A5A. That is, of course, if you already purchased it legally. :-)

EDIT: NM...Slingplayer won't run on the A5A. It force closes without starting. HMMM? I wonder if there is a way to get it to work?

As Micheal has stated, the Slinbox mobile apk is performing a device check which probably also includes screen resolution/graphics handlers.

I think what is required here is for Archos themselves to liase with Slingmedia and produce a specific A5A version that could be either on Appslib (minor modification needed) or added to the purchasable plugins list if it needs to run under the Archos Media system?

To be clear, I just said there was probably a device white-list filter on the Market. There may or may not be any such thing on the .apk, I don't know.

Copy protection on apps is increasing and this is pricey for an Android app, so that could be the cause as well. Or it could be some other incompatibility with HW or SW or both. I just don't know.

Taking it up with the folks at Sling via polite and positive e-mail would be my first step if I wanted the app on the device. You might even get some better answers, who knows!

Yeah... I'm pretty surprised at the price because you're already in for $120-$260 for the SlingBox. But the hardware isn't subsidized by a service so they have to get you where they can. Plus the iPhone app costs the same so I guess we're not getting screwed.

I didn't mean to imply that it was overpriced. I'm happy to pay good money for really good apps. In fact, I'd love to have some more great apps to blow good money on!

If only archos themselves had released there much hyped and publised tvportation plugin for tv+ back in 08 then we may not have had to have looked for a substitute like we are now.

I was very much looking forward to that additional feature as I owned (and still do) the 80g tv+ and a 605.

Anyone actually know why it was pulled?
