From Archos Lounge (translated into English): http://translate.google.com/translate?h ... %26hl%3Den

Good news on one hand maybe bad news for.....

I'm not sure where this leaves the current owners of the Archos 5 and 7. Unwanted step-children? Maybe Archos can find a way to get this into the current IMT.

Here is another one coming from Engadget - http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/09/arch ... ne-tablet/

scary for all of us current owners, but also good news for future owners - Android seems the right step for them (as they can focus on add-ons and not worry about the inner sanctums of an OS.

I don't think I would be scared. I am not using my new Archos 5 for much other than listening to music and testing wireless connections around the office.

If I could move to Android on my existing Archos 5, I would probably do it.

There appears to be more software, FREE software, for Android that would turn my Archos 5 into an office tablet.

More on Android can be found here. http://www.android.com/

A google search on Archos+Android makes me think that my Archos 5 won't but a new device from Archos will.

I'm ridiculously happy with this, just read about it on my Engadget feed. if the next gen players make the step up, in hardware as the step from gen 5, to 6, and sport Android as well, it's truly going to a beast of a beautiful machine. this could be a thing that will truly bridge the gap from wifi phone, to laptop. nearly everyone I've shown my 5 to has been thoroughly impressed, which I love, because at the end of the day, I'm an Archos supporter and would love them to be real competition to Apple. but, I also know what lies beneath. I know the restrictions, I know the frustrations, so I know there's a possibility that if one of my friends gets it, that they might get too frustrated with it and never go Archos again. this is definitely a possibility with the Archos OS (although the current one is fantastic, haven't had a problem as of yet). with Android, it'll never be an issue. I'm already in love with Android, having had slight contact with it, through some development and when it comes to Archos, with a mic, with a 3G connection, with better hardware again, Jesus, I'll be a happy, happy man. brilliant, brilliant news.

This is good news, no doubt about it and a step in the right direction (we hope) it's just that there may be an impression that the present IMT owners (me included) will be quickly brushed aside for this new system. I would like to be on board for a new platform but how Archos resolves the present situation may determine if I want to experiment with $450USD again this year (And I don't mean a $50USD buy-back of the "old" IMT).

And while they're at it, just incorporate the FM radio into the hardware this next time.

I also don't want to have to buy the same upsell options yet again. If Archos plans to introduce a new IMT the upsell options from the first generation IMT should be compatible. If we're so concerned about being "green", creating more upsell snap ons just adds to more manufacturing waste and packaging.

I've written Archos to incorporate Android into the present IMTs (5, 5G and 7). Maybe we could all do the same? Incorporating Android would certainly increase the desirability of the Archos 5, 5G and 7 which already has good hardware. The hint at a 500GB version is intriguing.

All that feature (especially 500GB HDD) in 10mm??? What a lie. A 500GB HDD alone is 9.5mm thick.

Archos really out to sort out the problems with the 5 before they start thinking about moving on to the next product.

Right. If they can prove that they are up to the task to working out the 5 issues then they have restored some credibility. If the problems are not worked out, what evidence are we left with that the next generation will be any more bug-free and stable?

If only they would upgrade the Archos 5 to Android as well, but they won't.

Rather can keeping 5 users in suspense whether other features will be released(HD Plugin, TV Snap On,) fix them! You can't get rid of a problem by creating more of them, eg there undoubtedly will be some problems and inconviences with the Android IMT. So Archos, just look at how many people are on this forum, at least 50% have complained about major issues regarding your products, before you make more products - redeem your reputation by sorting major problems out. Outrageous!

As far as I know Android currently runs on phones so I don't know about NTFS.
But could this mean that Archos will come out with a phone?

This could be a very interesting device. I wonder if it'll even look like the 5.
