Re: List of Bluetooth tethering phones that work
I just wanted to say that I was also able to pair my A5A with my AT&T LG Vu. It was painless and works flawlessly. Having been using the same SIM card on my iPhone, and I'm a little surprised (and very pleased) by how fast the A5A surfs the web on the AT&T 3G network ... definitely exceeds my expectations, and is almost as fast as WiFi. In terms of how to ge it up and running, I just paired the devices, selected the LG Vu in the tethering menu on the archos and ... it works!!! This guy is going to go everywhere with me now!!!
EDIT:
I did have to enter the APN.

I know this is probably irrelevant, and is obvious to everybody except me. But in the 10 pages of posting so far, nobody has been picky enough to spell it out, so here goes. I have an N97, and I think it was one of the first phones to go on the "It Worked" list. The Nokias are very easy to setup in this respect. They provide the functionality and let the carriers regulate the usage, they don't nobble the phones.
Anyhoo, I just thought I'd chuck in something very basic from the N97 setup.
The N97 has a list of access points. In this list, each Access Point has a name. This is called the "Connection Name" and is given by me, when I create it (and is not the access point name). I could have called it George (come to think of it, I did call it George). They can be created from scratch, and you can edit them. To edit an Access Point you click on the "Connection Name", this lets you see all the settings. One of the settings is "Access Point Name". This "name" (for my Carrier) is an ip address, not a word.
When I frst set up tethering, it didn't work. Eventually I realised that I had entered "George", the "Connection Name" instead of the ip address, the "Access Point Name" as defined in the settings. I assumed the Archos would go to "George" and pick off any settings it needed.
Not.
Eventually I sussed it out, and entered the ip address, rather than its list name, and it sprang into life. I realise that not all Carrierss use an ip address as its Access Point Name, but, in the UK, most do. Check out this link, and look at the entry against "Access Point (Contract)". In 7 out of 8 cases, the Access Point Name is an ip address. In the last case, Orange, it is a label "orangewap".

Just something to check.
EDIT. I posted the link as an example to show the syntax. The detailed settings may have changed. For example, the APN for O2 is now mobile.o2.co.uk. Don't use the Wap setting.

Has anyone been able to get to work on the Sprint network? Know the APN configuration information? I have tried blank and other combinations to no avail.

Re: List of Bluetooth tethering phones that work
Hi smith100, I use the Energy WinMo 6.5 ROM on my HTC Touch Pro. I have tried using the wifi router but my A5A does not see it. There is some issue with Ad-HOC wifi that the A5A will not see my phone when I turn on the wifi router. What version and publisher version of wifi router are you using? Does the TP2 support WPA access vs Ad-HOC? Exactly how do you set this up on your phone? I have tried everything to get either BT DUN or WIFI to work with my Touch Pro. Any tips or info would be appreciated.smith100 wrote:i have a htc hd 2 winmo 6.5 phone, i am able to send recieve music files, word documents and connect to the web via my phone by using the wifi router option on my phone all wireless and fully mobile, hope this helps

Try this on your Droid...

Test it first before you buy it as I am not certain it will work. But it's worth a try. Let us know how it goes for you!

Bah, no luck for me using PdaNet on my G1.
I have Jac's xROM_ECLAIR-v1.0 running but just can't seem to get a connection.

Re: List of Bluetooth tethering phones that work
Wasn't sure wether this was something for the FW update topic but since it dealt with tethering I decided to try it here:
FW 1.4.25 on A5A: my cellphone tethered to my archos but now that I have updated and installed the Android market hack I cant tether my cellphone. Specs: 32 gb A5A; Motorola K3 (euro spec) using vodafone prepaid APN: web.vodafone.de. Like I said it worked before the update so I'm kinda confused on what happened.
When I try tethering my wifes phone (Nokia 6300 euro spec) using my SIM card it says I need to subscribe to data packets for it to connect but her phone worked just fine befor the update.

I have 1.4.25 on my A5, and the BT DUN still working on my setup. My setup is different but it works using Verizon with BB Storm 2.
Anyone updated to the newer Donut 1.6 FW 1.7.33 on the A5 and see if the BT DUN still works? Have been researching but so far can't find if anyone using the newer FW and using the BT DUN setup.

What settings did you use for verizon? My HTC Imagio errors. Im using blank apn and my#@vzw3g.com and vzw for password.trogdor3222 wrote:Haha I can't wait to see what he's cooking up.
Works fine for me with my LG enV Touch from Verizon.
But if I wanted to pay an extra $30 a month to be able to tether with this phone, I would just upgrade to a Droid! lol. btw verizons new mandatory data plans on some of their dumbphones (like mine) is absolutely ridiculous. the other carriers better not get any ideas.

First of all, thanks to you and your husband's sacrifice for helping keep us safe and free.
The Jabra Halo is the only Bluetooth headset I'm aware of that allows to be connected by cord as well as being BT. Bluetooth is not allowed on commercial flights which makes the other BT headphones useless and creates a need to carry an additional, corded headset.
The drawback to the Halo is it's an "over the head" design which makes it a pain if you wear a hat.
Re: List of Bluetooth tethering phones that work
I confirmed this same procedure works on the VZ BB Tour model. I used "internet" for the APN.jcelano wrote:Hello....
I simply paired the A5A to my BB and then enabled tethering on my A5A and used "internet.com" as the ADN or whatever it asks for...
Be sure to make the A5A "discoverable" (under bluetooth settings) and the 9630 will find it right away... Don't worry that it says "paired but not connected" - I was able to get to the internet just fine
Let us know how it goes...
James
Steps:
1. Pair A5A and BB. The A5Awill say "paired but not connected", and doesn't display any BT profiles from the Tour. That doesn't seem to matter.*
2. Goto Settings->Wireless controls->Cell phone tethering on the A5A
3. Set "Carrier access point name (APN)" to "internet"
4. Set "Phone connection" to "Bluetooth"
5. Set "Bluetooth phone ID" to the Tour's bluetooth ID
6. Check the "Tether" text box to turn on tethering. When it connects sucessfully "Modem Mode Enabled" is displayed on the Tour**
* Even though the A5A can't see the BT services on the Tour, the Tour can see the services from the A5A
** I do pay for VZ's laptop tethering plan. I'm not sure if this affects whether you can tether the A5A or not as I've not tried it without the plan enabled.
Re: List of Bluetooth tethering phones that work
Has anyone gotten a Sony Ericson W760 phone to work with the Archos 5IT? The phone works ok with my Dell Laptop but won't tether (after pairing) with the Archos.
Thanks
Thanks
Re: List of Bluetooth tethering phones that work
Has the latest firmware release made any changes to the way Bluetooth tethers? I read on this thread that Google actually writes this code, and apparently the move to 1.6 of Android was a major enhancement. My AT&T Blackberry Curve 8310 still doesn't work, but it does work with a cheap $300 ASUS Netbook I picked up...bigger screen, longer battery life, more audio/video format compatibility....hmmm
