Tested several times on Bold (BB9000) with different APN, with different Bluetooth profiles in Orange France.

NO chance !

I even tested with a PDANet tool in order to get the proper BT DUN profile, and not the tweaked BB one.

BTW, the Bold is under the 4.6 OS version.

Not tested on a OS 5.x version

I'll post a complete step by step later tonight. Not much time right now.

I flashed to Energy Rom to do it. But it is waaaay too unstable for me to use everyday. I'm going to try it on a stock rom and if that doesn't work, on a mightyrom.

I appreciate it. I am using Energy but would use any ROM to get this working. I am using a Touch Pro but dont see that making a difference.

Touch Pro 2 Instructions. Tested on Energy Rom...
1. Make sure ur Archos has the newest firmware on it.
2. Using DotFred Taskmanager (or any other aftermarket T.M.) look in the "Services" and set CM_Guardian to Manual instead of auto.
3. Using PHM RedEdit change, [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\WIDCOMM\Plugin\DUNServer\ControlPanel] Enabled=1. (The default value is 0)

4. "Re-pair the A5A with the Pro2 and it will not see any bluetooth services but once you set up the A5A tethering and initiate a connection from the A5A, the Pro2 will connect via BT DUN. On the A5A you can leave the APN blank as well as the username and password blank. It actually doesn't successfully connect with the pro2 every single time. I'm not sure but I think you can't have a active data connection while the A5A is trying to connect." -This part quoted from previous post

Hello all,

I have a Sony Ericsson w580i on AT&T and haven't had any luck getting my A5A to connect to the phone via bluetooth. I can pair it just fine (as many on this thread have experienced) but I cannot get it to actually connect. The phone supports DUN, and I've tethered it to my laptop via USB, but I'm striking out on the A5A.

I spoke to tech support at Archos and they told me that I needed to have a plan that allowed tethering and the correct APN info (I've tried all the APN's I could find) in order for the A5A to connect at all. That sounds a little weird to me as I've been able to tether (just light stuff, checking email, etc.) from my laptop without a PDA plan that supports tethering, and you would think it would be able to connect even it couldn't get internet access.

My question is, is there anyone here who has got the tether to work on a non-tethering plan on AT&T? I was considering buying a used phone from the list of working phones, but I won't bother if it's actually a function of the plan I currently have.

Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to represent the situation properly.

My corporate plan on AT&T includes tethering and I've been able to successfully tether to my Blackberry on 3 continents with my Dell laptop via Bluetooth and USB connections, but it does not work with the A5A. I think Archos is just not supporting tethering the way AT&T does it with laptops (which basically emulates a modem/COM port via Bluetooth where AT commands can be passed). The A5A is trying to use a more generic method of just specifying the APN & login, I believe.

I think some other folks have it working with Windows Mobile phones on AT&T (like the Fuze)...which can also use software called WifiRouter to broadcast 802.11 B/G. I'm patiently waiting for an Android 2.0 or 2.1 update to hope this will be fixed on the A5A.

I have a feeling that by the time Archos figures this out, I will probably have moved on to an Android phone (once my corporate Exchange servers support it)...and the A5A will be my threadmill/flight video player, and nothing more. Shame because the screen is so big and nice.

Aha, that's good to know! Hopefully there is someone on here that has AT&T and has been able to tether reliably. If so, I'll feel better about getting a different phone specifically to get this working.

Thanks for the input.

I am up and tethered on an LG vu and it is running flawlessly. To answer a previous question I am on the basic ATT $15 data plan without tethering so I think the problems people are having aren't related to your carrier preventing it. I got the vu today thanks to seeing a couple of other people having success with it in this thread. The phone was a great deal, free at radioshack with 2 yr re-up.

So what's so special about the vu? Its an older, pretty basic model of phone. Maybe the newer models have a better blocking mechanism for unauthorised tethering?

I don't think so. Why would Bluetooth tethering work with Mac and PC laptops to my Blackberry 8310 just fine, but not with the A5A? I think its the way Archos has chosen to implement tethering. The 8310 is the most widely deployed Blackberry in the world, one would think that Archos would bend over backwards to make it work.

The Bluetooth stack is in Android. It is not developed by Archos.

If anyone is having trouble getting tethering to work on 1.6.08 that knows tethering can work on their device, can you please PM me? I *might* have a solution.

Haha I can't wait to see what he's cooking up.

Works fine for me with my LG enV Touch from Verizon.
But if I wanted to pay an extra $30 a month to be able to tether with this phone, I would just upgrade to a Droid! lol. btw verizons new mandatory data plans on some of their dumbphones (like mine) is absolutely ridiculous. the other carriers better not get any ideas.
