Hi,

I have had my Archos 7 160 Gb device about a week now and just love the look and everything about it.

All working fine except for one annoying exexption of video playing.

Day one to test I copied onto the device ten Music albums and ten Videos. All
played prefectly.

Now I have been to the Archos site and followed the instruction videos from Curtis the Archos
manager and transferred the 200 MP4 videos from my PC but not one of them will play asking me
to buy the plug in of course. Do not mind doing this if necessary but on day one somehow
I transferred ten of those videos and the Archos 7 converted them to a WMA (I think) format
that plays fine. They took an age to copy over where Curtis's method was very quick, they are still
there alongside Mp4 versions of same file that do not play.

thanks your time in reading this.

Am I crazy ? What method did I use or can I use to transfer these videos correctly?

The Archos DOES NOT automatically convert videos when you copy them... this is why it is not playing. If you are just connecting the Archos, letting your computer recognize it as a hard drive and just copying the files over, they wont work... You will either need to buy the plug in OR convert them first in your PC then copy them over...

P.S. I think Archos plug-ins are still sold cheaper over at eBay... you might want to look there. But my recommendation, just convert the videos to Xvid or a similar format.

Many thanks your help.

Realise now what a stupid question it was.

Downloaded Prism video converter and converted lots of videos to WMV format that copies over
and they p[lay perfectly. Will have a look on E-Bay.

Prism would not convert all the Music videos I bought in iTunes, is there a way of getting those
on an Archos 7?

I have never used iTunes but I thought that they added DRM to some files (basically some type of lock to prevent piracy). Maybe your Prism software cannot convert those specific files. Try downloading another program. I believe the last time I used a converter program was from "Xilisoft" or some company like that...

Thanks.

thanks Eagle.

That explains it. Apple do like to be exclusive don't they?

No problem, I have aleady copied over 70 Gb of various media so the small amount
of Apple items will not be missed.

Great gadget.

Awesome!

Archos is a rare breed.
It's not the perfect item and you will get a couple of errors (probably) and whatnot BUT it is indeed a great item. I've had mine for 3 years+, been using it 5 days a week for 6+ hours a day and it's still going strong! (probably will have to replace the battery soon! lol).

So Enjoy!!
(and welcome to the forums)

There is a tool which can strip the Apple DRM.
You won't hurt Apple's benefit if you do not send the DRM-free file to anybody else.

Thanks the tips eagle and Jonnygreenwood.

I am pleased to have options and find out more about this tablet by reading up
the old threads.

Not worried about what it cannot do, just delighted in what it is and can do.

It just seems a remakably stable platform to play and store all my media and do
basic internet searching. DVR station brings the latest TVs into the loop. This
is a great device !

Old eagle1 post informs me he has used it nearly every day for three years. This is what
I want to hear and hope to do exactly the same. So much so I did a couple of
days bid for one on e-bay and lost out my only 0.10.

Keep up the good work.
