I am trying to re-install patched firmware 1.6.54 on my Archos 5, which had been upgraded with a 750GB HDD. I sold this to someone who started complaining that it wouldn't boot after he'd had it for a week, and I don't know what he did to it but when I try to boot it goes straight into recovery mode.
So....I connected it to an Ubuntu machine and tried following the instructions here to reinstall the patched firmware:
https://sites.google.com/site/archos5imt/patched-fw

The problem comes when I try to mount the hidden partition - I get this error:
Code:
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/loop5,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error

dmesg tells me this:
Code:
[  319.421351] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] Write Protect is off
[  319.421353] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] Mode Sense: 0f 00 00 00
[  319.421729] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] Write cache: enabled, read cache: enabled, doesn't support DPO or FUA
[  323.555312]  sdb: sdb1
[  323.559366] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI disk
[  350.777938] Bluetooth: BNEP (Ethernet Emulation) ver 1.3
[  350.777940] Bluetooth: BNEP filters: protocol multicast
[  350.777945] Bluetooth: BNEP socket layer initialized
[  924.907501] EXT4-fs (loop5): VFS: Can't find ext4 filesystem
[ 1065.787344] CIFS VFS: Free previous auth_key.response = 0000000053a33381

I have no idea what /dev/loop5 is, and why it is looking for an EXT4 partition there. The full audit trail of what I did is below. Any idea why I'm getting this error?

Code:
[email protected]:~$ sudo fdisk -l
[sudo] password for myuser:
