Hey. I just got my Archos 5, 250 GB, and I love it.

Well, so far.

I installed the new firmware, and I clicked "Demo of the new firmware," or something to that extent, because that seemed like the next logical thing to do. The Archos crashes. I turn it back on, and everything powers up like normal, but the touch screen is COMPLETELY unresponive. It asks for my device unlock code, but I can't punch it in, or get the unit to react at all to anything.

I've used the little reset button on the bottom, I've held it for 30 seconds, I've powered it down completely and left it sit for a while... none of which yield an active touch screen.

What the funk is wrong and how can I fix this?

Reinstall the firmware, force it to do this by holding both the volume buttons on boot

I'll try this when I get home. Hopefully it should do the trick. I got to the recovery screen with no problems. Thanks for the tip, sir.

when this thing froze, it ruined my day. Ok... It says the update was successful.

When this used to happen on the 605 you could go into the menu using the buttons and recalibrate the touchscreen which usually worked. Oh how I would miss the buttons...!

Never happened to me on my 605..

It doesnt really happen with mine either, once or twice maybe in the last year. Hasnt happened since I took the screen cover off now that I think about it...!

My screen cover on my 605 never came off hehe. But the 5 the cover came loose so i had to take it off to see the screen properly.
