Hey all, i just registered because i can't figure out how to connect wifi, it keeps saying connection failed. I have been looking around the forum for about a month, hoping I would be ready once I got my 5 so I wouldn't have to ask a bunch of questions. I didn't make it very far. I have a secure network and enter the pasword and after about 45 seconds it says it failed. I thought maybe i ws imputing my password wrong but I'm not. I checked on my computer.
Any ideas? I would really appreciate it, this is my first archos, coming from creative

Maybe your WiFi network limits access to certain SSID. Which is your WiFi router brand?

Try taking it to other wifi spots and see what you get. Some store or coffee shop that has free wifi. See what you get there.

Having the same problem luckly there is a public wifi spot at a park around where I work so I was able to test it. Thank goodness it worked but dont kknow if it is my personal wifi or the firmware that is messing up. Most likely it is the firmware.

alright, I went and checked it out at my parents. It defineately worked on a secure network. But when I was setting it up there it was giving me different options.. when I was puttin in my password i could put it in as a password, and 2 other options. I can't remember them. At my house it just asks for a wpa key. then I can click on an advanced settings button and change it between automatic dhcp and manual. does anyone have any ideas at all??? I don't know how to connect it and don't understand why the screens are so different when connecting on different networks

I think I figured something out.. Can anyone else who has the 5 confirm this. I believe that the 5 can only connect to secure wep networks. the wpa networks will not connect for me. Anyone else??

Hmmm I have an Archos5 and I've connected to many open wifi before, but I can't connect to my home WEP wifi :(
Any ideas?

PS check to see if your router uses MAC filtering, that might help... not in my case tho :x

If I recall correctly, the A5 doesn't do WEP. Or am I thinking of the Zune? :?

^ I believe it does. I have WEP setup at home and connected no problem.

Zoobabwa, maybe check your router setting to make sure the DHCP range for assigning IP is big enough.
I have DHCP range to limited to 10 IP addresses on top of WEP.

Go into your settings and find the section that allows you to enable a static IP...and turn that off. Worked for me.
