Yeah its normal to see the penguin if you have the patched firmware installed. if you want to change it to your own custom logo try this http://archos.g3nius.org/index.php?titl ... _boot_logo

So I tried this hack and have bricked my ARCHOS. Now when I turn it on it automatically goes to the ARCHOS G6H Recovery (code 101). Can anybody help me fix it. I tried installing a new firmware but i cant install it due to it not having a home screen. Is it possible to install the firmware directly from the computer to the archos or is my archos officialy dead.

Please help me

try booting into recovery mode by holding the plus and power sign simultaneously then select repair disk to connect the archos to your computer. once its connected try copying the a copy of your firmware version in to the root of the archos and restarting it. Hope this helps.

you have to hold the power and volume up button at the same time when you start it up to get in to recovery

Yeah I know but it doesn't go to the recovery screen. I hold it long for so long that it just turns back off.

try just connecting it to your computer without going to recovery and deleting the old firmware file and putting in a new one

Press Power-on and Vol+ at the same time. When the screen lights, stop pressing the Power-on key but keep pressing the Vol+ key until you get to the recovery menu. Navigate the menu using Vol+ and Vol- for cursors and Power-on for "OK". Select "repair disk". When asked to, connect device to computer, put a fresh copy of the most recent firmware (1.7.11) onto the device, select done, wait for the firmware update to finish.

If it doesn't work, you can send me your device as a hardware donation... :)

This might be the key here. Did your dumb battery die when it was doing the firmware upgrade? or just when you were copying the firmware file to the device?

If it died while you were doing the firmware upgrade, there is a good chance that your device may be bricked, forever.

Well, the firmware update will only start when the device is connected to DC power (either USB or AC adapter).
