Just pretend okay, I am sure you have done it before.
I am sure many others like myself go nowhere without their trusty device.

So lets say you won the lottery would your dream device be an archos 5 or something else, A custom made hand built version by the geekiest people you could hire, or a reprogrammed version or a version with removable OLED screen or what?

Tell me your dream system, including all the spec you could want.

Lets get an idea, possibly, for archos to look at and say "okay heres the deluxe version at twice the price but it's made the way you want it"

For me, I would

- use the BEST LCD screen
- 720p support for all codecs (including H.264 at high profile)
- MKV
- 512GB SSD (OMG!!!!)
- glossy exterior, but with a specially made zagg on it
- really thick battery, at least 10 hours of video on high backlight
- much better browser (in fact, I would take safari's)
- 3G
- bluetooth
- embedded GPS
- electronic dictionary
- embedded TV record and output
- AC in
- card reader
- solar power panels on the back?

in the distant future...OLED...methanol fuel cell...multicore processor...1GB system memory...terabyte of solid state memory...802.11 n...bluetooth...SD slot...codec included (no plugins)...outlook compatible...ability to read and write .docx & .xlsx files...and a open firmware that works...

in the near future...outlook compatible...ability to read and write .doc & .xls files...and an open firmware that works...

in the short term...for it to work as advertised...decent build quality (but not as a deluxe version)...the ability to properly multi task without closing out video/music/browser...and a cheap neoprene case to be included so it don't get scratched up whilst you wait for your nice leather case...

And there I was thinking I was the only one who wants solar panels on the back, And to be honest I reckon some gifted geek could work these into it now, All you need is something the right size, even if it's loose, get a better fitting leather case, and a usb connector tip...

I could also add, sim/m2 type card reader for backing up phone photos now that 5.0's are so common, and an infrared connection, All underneath a carbon fibre or titanium shell....

Oh, and has anyone thought about a 2.5" user replacable drive system, or possibly some other sort of SSD enclosure method......?

This subject has come up before... at present levels of solar cell technology, I think we worked out that you'd need about a half a square metre of solar cell, weighing 1-2 kg, and very good weather, to power an Archos.

Of course, if you won the lottery, you could invest in solar power research... :)

You have to win a lot more money than the lottery to buy Archos unforunately.

an MP3 player running window Xp or Se7en with 3GB ram, dual core CPU and 500GB HDD, and good graphics such as Nviia 9500s would be ideal. of corse it would need wifi capabilities and a touch screen. if i cant get one of these an archos 5 does just fine too.

the rest of the money will go in to the bank.

In the bank, and more specifically, a bank that isn't going to fail!

If they could only find a way to slap a music playing interface on top of one of those new 2TB Western Digital drives.....

Create a small brick sandwich: one slice of battery, one slice of 2TB drive, one slice of screen/interface/electronics.

you already have BOX or smth, the issue is to make it smaller (will be possible in time) and battery life (will be possible in time), imagine playing crysis on archos (with attached mini keyboard that will ofcourse cost 100$ as an addon:)

Crysis, farcry 2, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Wow, not a bad idea at all...
Why not take it one step further and shove a gaming keypad, and mini mouse on it. Or at least the usb ports for such.

Don't forget the raised up stand and surround phones fitted. With a decent volume output.

Mmmm drool
