Copying recorded programs back to PC

Post by sab »

Hi All,

anyone hit problems with copying files back to a PC?

I used the facility to edit out adverts and such from recordings and it seems to have put the updated files in a weird read only state. They play back fine on the 705 and I can copy the AVI file but not any AV2 or 3. Also, the AVI file still has the adverts that I cut out which suggests any updates are stored in a database somewhere on the 705 and the actual file itself isnt changed.

Any ideas to get round this. I've tried changing file extensions but no joy.
Many thanks.

When you cut the adverts out, you need to use the "save fie as" option instead of just save.

The normal save will remove the edits on playback, but not alter the file.

On my 704, I can rename the AV2/3 files to avi when on the PC, after first renaming the avi to original_name_1.avi, then the av2 file to original_name_2.avi and then the av3 file to original_name_3.avi etc.

Not sure you can on the GEN5 device though - hopefully someone will confirm/deny.

Not sure if this is a problem with others; tried to search for previous posts on this forum....

I copy and transfer a number of content (TV programs) from the unit to the hard drive on my computer via the usb connection. Because the unit is seen as another hard drive on my system, I'll drag and drop from the Archos to another drive. I'll then delete the file from the Archos.

I've noticed however, that if I do it this way (delete files from the computer) the unit will "not" reflect the deletion when checking "remaining hard drive capacity" from the "files" folder. For example, when I click on properties on the unit from my computer I'll show 32gb of open space available, when I check on the unit, I'll show 6gb. I can fix this by copying content back to the unit and deleting from the Archos.

I tried updating the Archos library as well as clearing temp and cache to see if it'll show the changes, but it does not.

Does the unit actually reads the drive and displays "true" capacity when accessing via the files-Info tab?

Thanks
