So, i was moving a movie to my sd card, then rebooted because i had to get the card to be recognized as read/write (i had the lock enabled)
then upon booting back in, i'm greeted w/ the 104 error.

i've restored, formatted, put the firmware in there. it was doing nothing for a while. i removed that 0byte file out of the system folder, now after i click repair i'm sent to a screen that shows

Please connect DC-in or USB cable

Problem is, USB cable is plugged in, and its always been charged via USB cable. I'm completely stuck at this point. any ideas are helpful, thanks.

if this is a 2gb machine then you can try another standard usb lead, you get the same leads with other media players, phones, passport hard drives etc.
also try another port on your computer as there maynot be enough power coming from that one for the archos to register its there..

i would if i was you star a fresh,
donwload the latest firmare.
turn on your machine - hold tv out button at the same time
click repair

it should then say

recovery update
connect your device to your pc and install an update file
do this but DONT CLICK DONE until this has finished copying.
when completed the transfere you can NOW CLICK DONE
your lead should already been inplace, the machine should then reload the firmware.

i suspect you were hitting done to early, dont worry a lot of people have made the same mistake.
To note in the future, if you get recovery screen up because of a sd card problem just hit the X button about 10 time if i remember correctly, this will then make the machine reboot and it should be ok.
hope thats helpful
