i wanna get an alternate way of charging my archos 605 30GB. Seems like i have a choice between the wall charger (like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-HOME-WALL-AC-CA ... 2294wt_732) or the mini dock like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/Archos-Mini-Dock-fo ... _500wt_975)
I know the dock adds functionality of tv out and usb. My main issue is the charging time, Will wall charger be as quick as the mini dock?
Thanks

None of those are giving any specs. You could email the seller for the specs.mrdoc wrote:i wanna get an alternate way of charging my archos 605 30GB. Ideally, you need something that will give 2000 mA output current, such is what's available in the DRV, mini and battery dock Archos (Gen 5 ) chargers.
Most USB charger adapter methods, like the cig lighter for example, or USB port off a PC will only charge at a meager 500 mA -- this is why it takes a long time to charge an Archos this way.
Take a look at this:

Hope this helps you out.

Actually - just having that amount of current won't help you charge faster I'm afraid. Someone else thought it would work in spite of my warning - and the end result was the same as with a regular 0.5A wall charger. Unless you get a mini dock, DVR dock or charging dock - the Archos 605 prevents you from charging faster directly by USB. I'm guessing it's a limit that Archos imposed to help justify their docks.mrdoc wrote:This helps. There are many other devices that can charge faster from a higher amp charger - but the Archos won't. To do that, you'd have to get a dock I'm afraid.

Oh man, I was not aware of that, sorry if I was misinformed! That is terrible that we are locked into buying the "Rapid-chargers" only from Archos.PolloLoco wrote: Actually - just having that amount of current won't help you charge faster I'm afraid. Does that mean that the Archos player will always draw a maximum 500 mA charging current though the USB proprietary connection, even with this product (max ouptut 1000 mA) ?

I'm afraid so.
Here's the original thread that talked about it, with user tests:
