Hi all,

Have had my 704wifi just over 2 years with some minor glitches (no audio output, unexpected resets) nothing either a soft reset or reboot couldn't handle. Today I powered it on and got an odd grey screen with some white splotches. Numerous reboots got screens with various thin colored lines, all white, or half white half black. I left the unit on and drove home (about fifteen minutes). Took it out and all seemed fine. Started playing a song and in about 30 seconds I got the weird colors again. I was able to pause and play the song by memorizing where the play/pause button was on the touch screen but couldn't see icons. TV output worked fine though. Was contemplating finding a new touchscreen and performing major surgery when I remembered the hard reset button. Tried it and then the TV out didn't work and the screen was still garbled. Tried reset again and no it works fine for the past 7 hours or so.

So my question is has anyone every experienced this before? Is it the sign of a slow and painful demise or a random glitch? Should I start saving for a new PMP? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hate to be the bearer of negativity but it sounds like it could be hardware fault, especially as it keeps on coming back through numerous resets. Image

I once dropped my 704 WiFi - half black screen, half green/grey/white. Was still in guarantee, and was repaired no problems. My second 704 also once or twice started to act this way, but with a small tap to the side bezel, would revert to normal video. Thankfully, it has not played-up since. So, could be a loose fitting - keep the faith!
