I have been thinking about purchasing an Android phone with a generous sized screen - at least 3.5" , hopefully 4" - and would like to be able to browse the internet and download apps.

But all of the major phone carries here in the USA charge a huge amount of money. If I want a moderate plan from Sprint or Verizon, I will pay close to $100 a month (including taxes and fees) for 400 minutes, unlimited texts, and 2 GB of data. That is way too much money, $2400 over two years.

I am hoping to buy an Android smartphone that has Wifi, so I could pay a provider for voice and text, but not pay for data.(or pay a small amount for data, noting that I will mostly use Wifi.) Most data I use would come only from Wifi hotspots.

Of course, no mainstream USA provider seems to offer such an option.

Any idea where I can buy a decent smartphone for a reasonable price, and use someone's voice/text plan, but avoid paying a lot for data?

- Robert
