not possible. Archos locks the device to the hard drive serial identifyer with no way to change this. Even Archos themselves are unable to swap over hard drives a far as I know.

actually it is possible, but you have to send to these people

http://s289462194.e-shop.info/shop/page/1?shop_param=

I had a 160G drive put in my AV500 by them last year because I wanted to use the max 130G the system can see.

I also have a 160G 504, if that ever failed I would put a 250 or 320 into it. The only problem I see is if the supply of IDE drives dries up if they are no longer made.

this guy must have access to equipment that can change the rom in the hard drive circuit board and perhaps manufacturer area of the platter since you have to send him the serial number of your existing hard drive and he clones it onto the new drive.

Hi:
KOMPASS17, MIKEKOZ and others with failed HDs in their Archos players might be interested to learn that there is a website out there which will sell you replacement HDs. They have you send them the model number and serial number of your bad drive and this they somehow write to a file on the replacement drive, which they send you. Then you follow their instructions to replacement the Archos OS. Here is the link to that site...

Perhaps others have used them and can comment.
