Just got a Gmini 500. Have a lot of movies that are in AVI format and none will load to my Archos. I then realised they need converting to WMV format which I did with 'Convert VOB to AVI' It took an age!( is there anything faster) It then loaded to the Archos fine but when I tried to play it I got a message saying the image size was too large. Any advice would be appreciated.

Also I have some foreign language films with the subtitles in srt format. Can they be converted & will they play on my Archos.

TIA

Geoff

nope you dont need wmv to play, the machine will play natively divx / xvid with AVI container.
the easiest and quickest program ive used (in learning curve) is pocket divx encoder.
the program is freeware and has templates for the av500 (which your machine is excatly the same as).
just select the file you wish to encode and hit encode. you will get a copy of the file to the excact dimensions / audio bitrate you need to play on your machine.
then you just have to drag it accross.

Thanks Roy

A brilliant piece of software which work wonderfully well. I shall be making a donation to the developer. Haven't yet worked out how to do batch files but that I think is the least of my problems.

Many thanks again

Best

Geoff

np, for batch is a doodle, just click add to list insted of encode now, once you have all the files in your list click encode all and off it will go.
